Advancing Edge AI/ML for Grid Reliability
At DTECH 2026, in collaboration with Gordian Technologies, Itron will demonstrate advanced edge artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) applications that enable utilities to identify and respond to potential grid issues with greater speed, accuracy and operational context.
Running on Itron’s next-generation metering platforms, Gordian’s technology illustrates the powerful potential of continuously running complex neural networks directly on electric meters, driving real-time insights and enhancing grid reliability. Coupled with this technology, Itron will demonstrate the power of predictive analytics and ML on multiple sources of data—from meters, substations and various grid sensors—to detect emerging risk conditions earlier, prioritize the highest-impact events and accelerate field response—particularly in high fire threat areas.
With an eye on the future and expanding AI at the edge, Itron will also show next-generation metering, equipped with NVIDIA Jetson edge computing technology and optimized by Gordian for resource-constrained environments to support scalable deployment across utility networks.
Cloud Powered AI and Scalable Digital Transformation
Itron continues to expand its partnership with cloud, AI and data platform partners—Microsoft, AWS and Snowflake—focused on delivering optimized operational insights at higher volumes and faster than ever before.
Itron’s longstanding collaboration with Microsoft Azure continues to expand data-driven capabilities across utility operations. At DTECH, attendees will see how Itron solutions leverage Azure’s secure, scalable cloud environment to support high-volume advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) and grid sensor data management. Itron will also demonstrate how the companies are integrating Microsoft’s generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) Copilot technology into Itron’s Intelligent Edge Operating System (IEOS), a global data platform, to enable utilities to use natural language queries to request information previously only available to their data scientists.
Together, Itron and Microsoft will highlight how utilities are accelerating their digital strategies with modern cloud architecture, integrated workflows and ready-to-deploy analytics:

Available across leading cloud platforms, Itron’s advanced Grid Planning solution, powered by Snowflake’s AI Data Cloud, simplifies utility planning and operations, providing validated data accuracy and advanced forecasting. The advanced Grid Planning solution enables utilities to identify capacity constraints, support DER proliferation and deliver enhanced reliability while realizing substantial cost savings, setting the blueprint for the grid of the future.
Enhancing Customer Experience with Personalized Insights and Load Intelligence
Itron’s Distributed Intelligence platform enables access to high-resolution data, delivering deeper insights into behind-the-meter usage and generation. By turning AMI data into real operational value, Itron’s DER Awareness Bundle along with customer experience solutions from partners like Net2Grid and Bidgely will demonstrate how the right insights can empower consumers to proactively manage their energy utilization.
A leader in real-time energy analytics and load disaggregation, Net2Grid brings ML-driven insights that help utilities better engage customers, support demand-side management and energy efficiency initiatives and improve grid edge transparency. Their analytics are particularly impactful when combined with Itron’s DI ecosystem and interval-level data streams.
Bidgely’s AI-powered customer energy insights platform integrates seamlessly with Itron to bring utilities an enriched view of household usage, appliance-level intelligence and customer segmentation. At DTECH, Itron will demonstrate how enhanced load visibility can support demand flexibility, program targeting, beneficial electrification and customer satisfaction.

Harnessing Demand Flexibility at the Grid Edge
As electrification accelerates and grid complexity increases, demand flexibility is an essential capability for modern utilities. Itron, along with partner solutions, continues to advance grid edge intelligence that enables real-time orchestration of distributed energy resources (DERs), enhances situational awareness and empowers utilities to extract more capacity from existing infrastructure.
Itron is helping utilities and fleet operators overcome one of the most persistent barriers to transportation electrification: distribution-level capacity constraints. This coordinated approach allows fleets to scale electrification without costly infrastructure upgrades while giving utilities a flexible, standards-based mechanism to manage grid impacts. Read how Itron and its fleet charging partner are unlocking new levels of demand flexibility at the grid edge here.
Itron is also collaborating with EV charger partners like Emporia to bring real-time, meter-based load management to residential EV charging. With this solution, utilities gain the ability to manage charging behavior directly via the meter, using real-time load conditions to optimize charging rates without requiring panel upgrades or customer installed control hardware. This integration illustrates how behind-the-meter devices can participate in autonomous demand flexibility, helping safeguard transformers, prevent overload conditions and support beneficial electrification at scale.
Expanding beyond flexible loads, Itron and its partners are pioneering a standards-driven approach to battery energy storage coordination at the grid edge for residential energy storage systems to be controlled directly through Itron’s meters—enabling real-time charge, discharge commands and local capacity relief.
